The 1996 Saguenay floods, the 1998 ice storm, the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the 2003 SARS epidemic, the 2004 tsunami, the avian flu pandemic and hurricane Katrina in 2005, forest fires, and avalanches—these disasters and dangerous events have greatly troubled us and, in some cases, continue to threaten our public safety. From this perspective, the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), in partnership with Québec’s ministère de la Sécurité publique, is organizing the Third Symposium of the Canadian Risk and Hazards Network (CRHNet), with the theme " A Dynamic Risk Management Partnership: Lead by Examples ". This pan-Canadian event will be held from October 11 to 13, 2006, in the Marie-Gérin-Lajoie Hall of the Judith-Jasmin Pavilion (405 Saint Catherine East, corner Saint-Denis). The cost of registration is $380, or $43 for students.
The Symposium is co-chaired by Michel Jébrak, Vice-Rector for Research and Creation at UQAM, and Michel C. Doré, Associate Deputy Minister, Ministère de la Sécurité publique and governmental emergency management co-ordinator. It is supported by Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Canada. More than 250 participants from various sectors connected with public safety will attend the Symposium. They will discuss exemplary practices in risk reduction and the management of natural and man-made disasters. The event will also provide an opportunity for participants to share their experiences managing risks and hazards.
